AFRICA: We're going BACK!

Update:

We did not max out our matching campaign, BUT we are watching a miracle take place!
Four weeks ago we needed $24,500.
As of right now, we only need $4,500.
THAT is a miracle.
We are SO THANKFUL to each and every person who has partnered with us to be the GO!
It's as we each do the part God lays on our heart that the whole is accomplished.

Thank you.

Our deadline was this past Monday, so we're working on doing everything in our hands to reach our goal quickly as ground costs are starting to be paid out.
If you haven't had a chance to give yet but still want to, we are welcoming any and all donations! There is still time to be part of the GO.

ANOTHER Matching
Campaign!
(freak OUT)

The deadline for our trip funds to be fully in has been extended to next this Monday, May 20th, and we are down to needing only $12,775.
We have had TWO donors come forward and say they would each like to do a $3000 matching campaign for a combined total of $6000 in matching funds!
This means that if we max out these matching gifts,
the remaining $12,000 will be in!

I'm KINDA FREAKING OUT.

This works the same as last time, where your $25 becomes $50, your $100 becomes $200!
Starting today, May 15th, we have 'til this Friday night, May 17th, to MAX THESE OUT
and bring in the full $12,000.

Will you help us? If you've been thinking of giving and just haven't gotten around to it, NOW is the time to join us and be part of the GO.
So many have come alongside already. Scripture says the one who sends gets the same reward as the one who goes, and we are all called to play the part God puts on our heart.
What is He leading you to do?

Singing I Am Free with the Mankayane kids last year...
one of the most beautiful things to sing over them, "We will dance til the chains fall off." Declaring truth over these children and this nation!

Most of these children get meat once a year at their Christmas meal.
We had Christmas in June.  =) This was our fun day, and since it was Saturday the kids wore their favorite clothes to the party at the carepoint.
Ncobile is in the green plaid dress. She is such a leader to those around her. I believe God is raising her up to impact this community and subsequently the nation.
Nombilu is her friend with the sweetest, kindest heart who quietly notices everything.
I can't wait to hug these girls in a few weeks!

Matching Update:

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who joined with us in the matching campaign through donations and prayer.
WOW!!!

Because of YOU we not only maxed out our matching goal, but blew it out of the water!
Over two and a half days we saw over $9,000 come in!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
God is so amazing, and He calls us into this together, each of us doing the part He's laid on our hearts.
And in that, we see miracles happen!

We wanted to give you a concrete update of where that puts us financially:
Last Wednesday, we needed $22,500.
OVER $9,000 was raised during the matching campaign!
However, during that time we found out our bottom line trip costs went up. With rising plane fares and fuel charges, this is something that can't be helped.
So, our total trip expense went from $27,000 to just under $29,000.

That leaves the amount still needing to be raised at $15,000.

We are beyond thankful to all of you who have joined with us in this and are a part of the GO.
If you had meant to donate and didn't get around to it, we still need your help!
(Details on how to give can be found below.)
Our trip deadline to have all funds in is this Saturday, May 11th. We are believing that everything will come in!

Thank you for continuing to pray with us.
We know God has arranged every detail for such a time as this.
Esther did not perish. She saved a nation.
We know that we will not perish, and that God has plans far bigger than we can comprehend.

We're adventurously expectant...

"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant..."

Urgent:

A generous donor has given a matching gift of up to $3000 toward our Swazi/Wales trip this June!
That means that for every gift given, it will be matched, up to $3000!!!
Your $25 becomes $50. Your $50 becomes $100. Your $100 becomes $200.
Simple as that!

Starting today, May 1st, we have until May 3rd, this Friday to max this gift OUT. Will you help us???
We know we are going to see a miracle. God spoke a few months ago that this year our going would be an even bigger miracle than last year.
We wondered how.
(Ha.)
Now, with a little over 5 weeks to go and $22,500 still needing to be raised, we may have an idea of what He meant!  =)
As YOU partner with US in walking this out, we will all witness and be a part of this miracle together.
NO gift is too small. And everything is a seed for bigger things to grow!

Please pray about how you can partner with us and help MAX THIS OUT.
(And even go beyond...)

God said go.
He said lead.
He keeps confirming.
And as Joshua led the Israelites around Jericho, their part was to pray and declare the glory of God.
Their part was to walk in obedient trust.
God's part was to bring the victory.
And the walls fell.

So this is what we've been doing.
Walking forward in obedient trust, praying and declaring the glory of God.
We're about to see the walls fall.
Will you be a part of the victory with us?

White House Global:

"Therefore, GO..."
-Matthew 28:19

Last year we went. God said go. He said to take our whole family. All six of us.
And we went.
I went to Wales for two weeks in April.
In June ALL of us went to Swaziland, Africa, and loved on our carepoints there.
Nate brought the boys home and Brittney and I followed on to Uganda where we met up with another team.

This June we are going back. And this year God has not only called us back to Swaziland, but to lead the trip!
What an amazing opportunity and beautiful picture of ongoing relationship and love with our Swazi family.

Last year we spent most of our time at our two carepoints, Gege & Mankayane, doing lessons with the

children, encouraging the Gogos (Grandmas) who volunteer to cook the three meals a week for the children.
We were able to meet and spend time with our sponsored child, Tebo, and his fiesty little sister, Lebo.

The kids with Tebo (right), Lebo (center), their cousin Sephiphillo (in jacket).

We also got to do some home visits, bringing food and prayer into the homes of people who have known so much loss and devastation.
Buyisile is a widow with three daughters, the youngest of which was 8 months at the time. They live far from the carepoint, but the girls walk three days a week to get a meal and they all walk in every Sunday to church. How humbling to pray for them, then hug and laugh and put Ian's glasses on the baby.

Pastor Ronald is Gege's pastor, and as we headed back after spending time with Buyisile and her girls he became emotional.
"Do you know the blessing you brought that woman?"
We didn't understand.

In Buyisile's home with her three girls, a cousin and Pastor Ronald.

"By your complete family... father, mother and children... stepping over her threshold, you brought her hope and encouragement."
He explained through tears how our family coming to Swaziland together was sewing seeds that we may not be able to see now, but he will see the fruit of in years to come.
Swazis have little to no example of what a whole and healthy family.
Our love and care for each other as we were simply with them spoke volumes to their broken culture, showing them a picture of what is possible, what can be.

Wow.

And now we get to go back.
We recently got word that the children know we're coming and are so excited to again spend time with their friends from America!
Children who don't know longevity of relationship.
Children who know desertion, not someone coming back for them.
They know we're coming back.
(Oh, my heart.)

Gege, the larger of the two carepoints, is a very different place from last year!
We prayed for fertile soil, both literally in the land and in the hearts of the people.
Pastor Ronald emailed recently to say that the well is up and running! There is a catch basin at the bottom and they've stationed water bins around with spigots so the community can access fresh water as they need it.
How life changing to not have to walk two to three miles to get the water from where the animals are drinking!
It has brought the community in closer, as they all now come to the carepoint.
They were able to plant a maize field! And the Gege church has grown considerably, with people turning away from ancestor worship and turning their hearts fully toward Christ.

Fertile soil, indeed.

And we get to go back... and sew more seeds... and encourage these people... and deepen relationship and trust... and stand firm in the fact that we are a people committed to coming alongside, committed to partnering in the transformation of a community.

BUT, another adventure has come alongside our June Swazi trip!
Last year I knew that something deeper was forming than just a one-time trip to Cardiff, Wales. The relationships and heart connections were too thick to not go back.
This June, the end of our Swazi trip lines up perfect with the beginning of another team's trip to Wales.
God has called us to jump trips and join Wales after Swazi.
AMAZING!!!!!!

And we're already there! It's no more in airfare costs because we're already THERE.
We'll send the rest of the team back to the US and we'll hop off in London and head to Cardiff.
In this severely post-Christian nation, there are a few on-fire believers reaching out to the broken and hurting.
Last year I had the opportunity to work with the food pantry and see the amazing impact of the homeless ministry at City Temple, the largest church in Wales.
And yet, one thing that was so evident was a stark split among the generations. It is not often that whole families serve together here, and so interesting that God is calling our family to go and do exactly that.
Honestly, we don't know the exact reasons or the fullness of what we'll be doing.
But we know that God has called us to go and lined details up perfectly so we can do it easily, with only the added expense of ground costs.

What we need:

People to PRAY!
This is above all the most important element... the foundation.
For safety, for provision, for wisdom, for unity and ultimately that we would reach the Swazi and Welsh people in the ways God has already designed.

People to GIVE!
Our Swazi trip is $3500 per person (April update: this may have to increase due to rising airfare fuel costs) and there are six of us. Wales is an extra $1000 in ground costs per person.
The total amount we need is $27,000 by May 11th.
(Our Swazi team will leave around June 6th, we'll hop to the Wales team around June 19th and our family will get back to the US July 3rd.)

God does call us into full life, and it is with obedient trust that we move forward into this incredible adventure He is continuing to call us into.

Adventurously expectant...

Some pictures of our time in Swazi:

Ncobile is a leader in her generation. Nate and I noticed the very first day how she directed the other children and led by example, singing out the songs and encouraging the others.

The children only get meat once a year at their Christmas meal. This was Christmas in June!!! We had a huge fun day with nail painting, games, music and everyone got stew with goat meat.

We also handed out a cabbage to every child. (One cabbage can feed eight people.)

The kids LOVE music. We sang songs and taught hand motions.
They also taught us some of their songs.

Getting ready to head out to a home visit.
In Swazi you don't say, "Show me your muscles."
You say, "Show me your power."
