Look, here it is. The original post about the red flats. since leaving my last comment, I have been on Ebay looking at all KINDS of cute red flats and declaring my undying love for ALL of them.

After 13 years of marriage, David might actually have some competition for my heart.

I actually looked it up to find the post where you show off the red scrunchy flats becasue.....mine died.

AND

I threw them away before finding replacements.
Or even seeing which Target line they were from in case ebay had some.

Or giving them a proper send off.

so I searched to see if YOU had any information on them. And while I was waiting for the search results to return, I thought how ridiculous I was behaving over a pair of $16 flats.

And then I saw them.
And I kinda wanted to cry.

You see, I found a pair on Endless that I crave FORTNIGHTLY! (Did you like that?) But Angela, they are a hunderd trilliondjy dollars!

I go and visit them every once in awhile. so they know I love them. so they know I would buy them if I could. How if I wasn't required by law to feed my kids, pay my house payment and put gas in my car, I would buy them and possibly even a back up pair. But it isn't meant to be.

So I search on. Red ballet flats. (Well, black ones too-my black version died and the replacements i got at Target make actual holes in my heels.) I will find them.

They will be mine. Oh yes. They will be mine.

Love love love the thrift store I do! I can't tell you how many times someone will mention that they are looking for xyz... and I can say oh, I just saw that at "whichever" thrift store I just visited or I will watch for, and usually find, that item. Did I mention I love thrift stores? Your post had so many great strategies! I have learned not to buy "the item" because of the label alone but I will say I am more well dressed than I would be without thrifting. Another blogger mentioned asking about discounts. Only when an item is damaged (slightly) or a bit less than perfect in condition do I ask for a discount... however I may try in the future. :) Thanks for your great post!

Keeping with the theme of your post in John- "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world shall be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged, he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God."

So, very clearly, there is a calling for us to understand Jesus, that he is *the* Christ, and without Him there is no salvation for humanity...

I think as far as pop culture goes, we've latched onto the term "God" because it's very nearly universal for those who practice a faith, and seems inclusive. And hey, how many times have you heard someone say, "well, I believe in a God, but..." :)

At the same time, there is no doubt that we are called to share our faith, not just a whitewashed, muted, commercialized version of it, but a faith will all its nuance and vibrancy.

Unfortunately, this embracing publicly of the nuance, detail, truth- can sometimes isolate us from those we love. In loving an everloving God in all ways we are supposed to, we sometimes get resentment or hostility from those who mean so very much to us. It is a painful dichotomy, and I suppose a natural part of the human condition.

It sorta begs the question of personal ministry- what is my ministry, how do I bring people to God the Father without inadvertently pushing them away? How do I combine works and faith in a useful way?

Anyway, I was relieved for a reference you made in your blog post...I bumped into the mother of one of our mutual friends from youth last week. Oh! She told me updates. I smiled politely as my heart broke in my chest. But we must, must love them, no matter what choices they make. As a Catholic, I am reminded of the Fatima prayer: "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy." Especially those, I think, who keep getting it wrong. They need our prayers and love the most.

And it is because of something you alluded to in your post...our society's need to have what we want, as we want, with a little spiritual meaning applied to it as possible....I think this is what "trips up" those we care for.

Anyway, I am rambling. Sorry :) This has been sort of a "critical thinking" Advent season and I tend to blah blah blah.
