Conversations with a 14-year-old Boy

Picking up Taylor from weight lifting...

Me: "Hey, bud! How was weight lifting?"

Taylor: "Good. Ugh. I have to read this horrible book tonight."

Me: "What? Why?"

Taylor: "It's for Reading class. It's awful. It's so boring. I think it's the worst book ever written."

Me: "Oh, that sounds bad. What book is it?"

Taylor: "It's called Pride & Prejudice. And it's sooooooo boring."

Me: *Laughing too much to speak.*

Taylor: "I didn't get it in time, so I have to read 15 chapters tonight and write a summary on them by tomorrow. And the beginning was so confusing! Who would want to read this?"

Me: *Still laughing, but now able to speak.* "Well, some people really like it."

Taylor: "Ugh. It's horrible. Awful. Like, really, really awful. But, Riley said there's a Zombie Pride & Prejudice. Now that would be cool. I'd read that. That would be totally awesome."

Me: "Ick."

Taylor: "I mean, the title sounds cool... like it would be about Zombie's or something awesome like that. But, no. It's just really boring."

At least he loves to read.
