You Remain

Vacation.
Rest.

Rest

Getting away is required. 
Whether it's away-away or just pretend-away,
it's a must.

Sunshine is a bonus.
An outdoor body of water is an added bonus.

Coke and chocolate are both mandatory, too, though...
...or coffee, depending on the time of day.

Sometimes quiet.
Sometimes crazily filled with laughter and gleeful giggles,
long talks and then just sitting there saying nothing.
Then quiet again.

Together time.
And alone-time.

And the rest can come in many different forms, but it does come.
And there's the still small voice that again becomes much clearer.

Rest.
It brings clarity.
To many things.

Ask Angela: Navy Pants

Dear Angela,
I just bought a really cute pair of navy blue pants. I want to know what colors to wear with it. They are not the same as jeans so I don't feel like you can just wear any color. Thanks!

Some people may disagree with me (and they would be wrong), but I think navy pants are almost as versatile as jeans. 
Almost as.
When pairing color with navy pants you just need to be careful that you don't wind up looking too kitschy or theme-ish.
(Of course, on patriotic holidays I would totally go that route.)
And, be a little wary when pairing them with darker colors, because it can just look like something has been mismatched or like you're wearing a uniform that went wrong...
which is why I'm pairing the term "almost as" with the whole akin-to-denim subject.

For the record, I'm in sort of a phase right now with color. The whole muted/army/striped thing is swimming so strongly in my head that it completely influenced the looks I pulled together.


If you went with a more skinny/straight pant, I would luuuuuuvvvvv these tops paired with it. 
Right now something flow-y is going to look so fresh. And, see? Stripes. I told you.

When adding jewelry, silver is fine... but is so expected when wearing navy.
Why not go with gold? How fun would something like this be?


If you went with a more wide-leg/trouser/bootcut look, I would pair it with a more fitted top.


Let me say, though, DO NOT shy away from wearing color or patterns with navy pants!
Yellow would work great, or a not-too-bright green. Or even a bright green. (I would just break it up with a long necklace.)

And I can totally envision a sheer orange top layered with a classic white tank.
Or a sheer white top layered over an orange tank.
Or...
you get the idea.
Pulling on a jacket or vest can bring even more of a versatility to the look:


Ultimately though, keep in mind that navy pants can be worn very similar to jeans, they just bring a little bit more of a "crisp" factor to the ensemble. 
In this day where almost anything goes (as long as you wear it purposefully), don't be afraid to cuff them for a more casual look, or peg them for another fun take on an outfit.

(Fyi, Nate says if the pants are polyester you need to pair them with a light blue button down and wear them on Mondays. And you can name it something like "Blues Monday." Hee-hee.)
