Fashion Tip Friday: Manly Style

We talk a lot about taking the basics and making them work for nearly every occasion by dressing them up or down with accessories.

In this post, I want to showcase a man who has taken this concept and made it not just an idea, but a way of life. A man who stands by the idea of the "basic outfit," no matter what occasion may arise. A man who has brought the meaning of simplistic style to a whole new level. A man who is so married to the image he has singlehandedly created, that neither rain nor snow, sleet nor hail will temper his dedication.

I give you... *drum roll, please* ...your basic pair of shorts paired with your basic short sleeved shirt:

This wardrobe concept works for coaching the little guys...

Coaching the bigger guys...

You can add a collar to the shirt for Sundays. This helps when being used in a sermon illustration. All will see your style and be dually influenced by its versatility in running a preset course through the sanctuary while blindfolded.

It is well ventilated, keeping sweat to a minimum while training young Jedis how to use the force and protect the galaxy...

...and conquering the giant known as Disney.

You can dress this basic outfit down for strolling the streets of San Francisco...

Or dress it up for a fancy date night, all by just switching from an un-collared shirt to a collared shirt.

Whether walking the Brooklyn Bridge...

Catching a Broadway show...

Or taking your family to Easter service...

This basic outfit concept can withstand the test of time. A t-shirt with a few holes and some dusty sandals will easily take it out to mow the yard. But throw on your black sandals and a crisp t-shirt from the dryer, and your ready to take your wife to Applebee's. It's as easy as that.

From 2003 (when we all got digital cameras, and the earliest pic I have in my photo archives)...

To 2004 (when I MADE him wear a jacket)...

To 2005...

To 2006...

Jumping to 2009, and beyond...

...here is my salute to my Man of Style... my wonderful husband and birthday boy. Honey, from your green tank top and shorts in college, to your Oregon baseball shirt and green shorts of today... I'm so glad you chose me out of all of the rest to witness firsthand a lifetime of simplistic fashion dedication. Thanks to your unswerving commitment, I can maintain MY lifetime of un-simplistic fashion dedication.

I love you. So much. So, SO much. Happy 34th Birthday.

Very good! Happy B-day!
Though we also house a man of simplistic style... still trying to lovingly educate on shoe/sock/sandal rules.

This CRACKS ME UP! He has not changed, has he? Oh, I LOVED seeing these pictures!! So much fun. Brings back lots of memories of the only guy on campus who REFUSED to put on pants in the winter. I think he owned one pair of jeans that he wore to weddings and super-special occasions. So funny!

Why, he's just a BABY! No telling what fashion bug he'll get bit by when he turns 40. Hold on Sister!

Haha! That's great! I have a man of similar style, except mine owns no sandals, thankfully he doesn't like them because I don't think I'd allow them.
