Sassy Fashion Thursday: Mantyhose

No, no, NO! If it's for some kind of medical reason, and it's under pants, then okay. I guess I can understand a truck driver wearing support for comfort and circulation. But those are called compression tights. A different name altogether. And I do understand jockeys wearing them during a race, or tropical fisherman protecting their legs from stinging attackers. But, just because they "feel good" or "look nice?" And with shorts? Mantyhose just doesn't strike me as very manly.

When my knight in shining armor is charging in on his great steed to rescue me, the damsel in distress, from the forbidden castle... the whole picture is horrifically tainted if he stops short, bends down to examine his leg, and announces, "Oh, darn. That last briar bush put a run in my mantyhose!"

Okay, maybe I'm taking that a bit too far. I understand that a man has fashion sensibilities just like a woman. I also understand that tights of all shapes and colors have lunged back into style. But, for some reason this just sits wrong with me. (Jerm, maybe you would like to do a product trial run?)

Given, the girl in the photo has quite a few things going on with her outfit, too. (Bad fashion. Bad.)

Maybe this is a largely European thing? All I know is for years I've poked a little fun at my hubby for his throw-on-and-go wardrobe that mostly consists of athletic shorts and t-shirts (khakis and polos for a date). But he can change our Saturn's water filter, empty out a storage unit, build a shed, and rescue me from that forbidden castle... all without worrying about getting a run in his mantyhose. I'm so thankful for my down-home, rugged sports guy. He can come rescue me any day of the week. Because there's no way this guy is ever getting that job:

If you would like to read more about the history of pantyhose, and I know that you would, go here.

And if you, yourself, would like to either try them or give the gift of mantyhose, check out e-MANcipate.net for more information.

(Thanks to the Beautiful Bethany for turning me on to this surprising trend.)

I was going to make a comment about a stocking stuffer for Christmas, but then realized that could be taken the wrong way on so many differnt levels.

There is now way in this reality or any other that my husband would go for this, but thanks for some more ammunition... he was once asked if he had calf implants and we have never let him live it down.

BTW, 7 Word Sunday (Which is usually 6 Word Sunday) was already borrowed from Hemmingway! He claimed he could write an entire autobiography in only six words.

It makes the blog-rounds every so often, which is how I cam across it.

What?! I can't believe I just saw MEN in TIGHTS! And they are NOT in a movie as a joke either! So wrong. Oooooh so wrong.

Okay, fashion has gone to far this time.

Well, women don't wear pantyhose anymore so I guess it is the guys turn.

Knight comes riding in on his horse and you do not wear your pantyhose anymore! Majority of men that love pantyhose on their lady, will start wearing themselves. Ladies you are the cause of this, everyone of you that support bare legs in flip flops, thank you for turning men onto pantyhose! Just accept it and move on!

Actually tights were originally mens wear not womens. THe medical research shows that wearing legwear immensely improves circulation and foot ulcers.

I don't see anything wrong with a man wearing pantyhose under his shorts. The claim that a guy wearing pantyhose makes him look "gay" is utterly ludicrous. Besides, the secret to women wearing pantyhose is they have to shave their legs anyway. Likewise, men would simply do the same. I wear pantyhose under my shorts as a guy and my friends and family, both male and female actually think I look a bit more athletic and even masculine wearing them than otherwise.

I think it's interesting that I never, ever said anything about mantyhose making men look "gay," or only being worn by "gays," in my post, yet that's what the last two comments got a bit defensive about.

Teen fashion moves at a rapid pace, with drastic changes happening from season to season. It's impossible to keep up, especially on a teenager's budget. If you want to look like a teen celebrity, but can't afford to revamp your wardrobe every season, try looking at your closet full of clothes from a different viewpoint.
